If you've ever skied in Samoens you will have no doubt spotted the famous red cabins of the Vercland gondola which has been in operation since way back in 1973. This lift provided the original link up to Samoens 1600. The arrival of the luxurious Grand Massif Express in 2013 then became the more popular link between Samoens and the Grand Massif network. The old gondola more than makes up for its lack of luxury with a heavy dose of 'vintage character'!
The new gondola will feature 10 seat cabins and travel from Vercland to Samoens 1600 in an impressive 7 minutes. Extensive works will be carried out to improve the parking and optimise the flow of traffic around the base station, including an increased shuttle service. Work will begin at the end of the current season, and in fact some preparatory work has already been done!
This is great news for the increasingly popular hamlet of Vercland and will also help to reduce the load on the Grand Massif Express gondola in Samoens during peak periods.
A few facts about this new lift
- Distance following the line of the slope: 2200m
- Elevation gain: 802m
- Number of pylons: 14
- Capacity: 2000 passengers/hour
- Cabins: 10 seated places
- Number of carriages: 45 cabins
- Speed: 6 m/s
